Koi.com and Pan Intercorp were hit this winter by a storm that dumped three inches of snow, froze a number of the ponds, and basically put a serious damper on all outdoor koi activities.
Pan Intercorp is located just outside of Seattle Washington, and in this area we recommend running pumps, filters and UV lights all winter long.
Waterfalls are subject to freezing and can super-chill the pond
and therefor should be turned off during winter months.
In colder climates, many ponderers have to winterize their ponds by turning off the system entirely. It is important to remember to drain any external pipes, pumps and other equipment in order to avoid freeze damage.
Spring is just around the corner so hang in there Koi Kichis!
